The Secretary of the Interior is instructed to complete documentation, survey corrections, and the assignment of utility rights for the approximately 40 acres of land at the Wounded Knee site, ensuring it is held in restricted fee status by the Oglala Sioux Tribe and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe . This status guarantees the land remains tribal property, is subject to tribal civil and criminal jurisdiction, and is exempt from state or local taxation. Under the bill, the land must be used in accordance with the 2022 covenant between the two tribes, cannot be used for gaming, and any existing private or municipal encumbrances will remain in effect. The actions must be completed within 365 days, and the land will continue to be governed by federal Indian law as defined in the U.S. Code.
