This legislation aims to significantly enhance penalties for individuals who steal or attempt to steal firearms from federal firearms licensees. It amends title 18, United States Code, to introduce stricter sentencing guidelines for these offenses, reflecting the serious nature of such crimes. Under the proposed changes, knowingly violating or attempting to violate the prohibition against stealing firearms from a licensee could result in imprisonment for up to 20 years . The bill also establishes mandatory minimum prison sentences for aggravated forms of firearm theft. If the theft occurs during a burglary , the minimum sentence would be 3 years , while theft during a robbery would carry a minimum sentence of 5 years .
