This bill establishes the Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve in Georgia, redesignating the existing Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park as the "Ocmulgee Mounds National Park." It also creates the "Ocmulgee Mounds National Preserve" as a new unit of the National Park System, contingent upon the acquisition of sufficient land. The Secretary of the Interior is authorized to acquire land for both areas from willing sellers, donations, or exchanges, explicitly prohibiting the use of eminent domain. The Park and Preserve will be administered as a single unit, with a general management plan to be developed within three years in consultation with a newly established Advisory Council . This plan must prioritize the interpretation and preservation of cultural resources , including burial grounds and sacred sites of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The Advisory Council will include representatives from federal agencies, the State of Georgia, and three members from the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, advising on management and accommodating Tribal interests. The legislation allows for hunting in the Preserve and fishing in both areas, consistent with federal and state laws, while protecting sacred and cultural sites and ensuring tribal access. It mandates a preference for hiring members of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation for positions within the new park and preserve. Additionally, approximately 126 acres of land currently owned by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation will be taken into federal trust for the benefit of the Tribe, becoming part of Indian country.
