This legislation seeks to significantly improve cooperation between the United States and Taiwan in the travel and tourism sectors. It mandates the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Travel and Tourism, in coordination with the Secretaries of Commerce and State, to engage Taiwan authorities within 90 days of enactment to expand tourism. These efforts include identifying opportunities for enhancing travel between the two regions and strengthening their respective tourism industries through facilitating industry events, advising on cultural heritage preservation, and coordinating on visitor safety and security. The Act also requires regular reports to Congress on the implementation of these cooperation efforts, detailing challenges and resource gaps. Furthermore, the Secretary of Homeland Security must submit a report within 180 days analyzing the feasibility and advisability of establishing a preclearance facility in Taiwan . This report will assess the potential impacts of such a facility on trade, tourism, supply chains, and U.S. foreign policy objectives, while also detailing homeland security benefits and vulnerabilities.
