This legislation designates the existing POW/MIA Memorial and Museum in Jacksonville, Florida, as the National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum . The facility, currently under construction, is intended to serve as a civic landmark and cultural institution dedicated to honoring and educating the public about the 142,000 members of the Armed Forces captured as prisoners of war and the approximately 82,000 missing in action since World War II. It will also provide a venue for families to share their stories and publicize the history of the POW/MIA logo and Naval Air Station Cecil Field. To maintain its national designation, the Director of the National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum must submit a report to Congress within 90 days of the bill's enactment. This report must include a five-year budget, the organizational structure, bylaws, and any accreditation information for the museum. The national designation may be withdrawn if the museum is not satisfactorily operational within five years or if the required report is submitted late.
