The "Restoring Employment and Hiring Incentives for Removed Employees Act" (REHIRE Act) provides a hiring preference for certain federal employees involuntarily removed from the civil service between January 1, 2025, and January 1, 2027 . These eligible individuals will be deemed preference eligible for competitive service appointments and receive five additional points on their application ratings. This preference does not apply to those removed from political positions , or due to clearly documented charges of misconduct or delinquency . It also excludes individuals whose most recent performance review was documented as unacceptable or less than fully successful. The authority for this hiring preference will expire five years after the bill's enactment.
