The Veterans Earned Education Act aims to broaden the criteria for individuals to transfer their Post-9/11 educational assistance benefits to eligible dependents. Currently, eligibility is primarily based on a minimum of six years of service. This legislation expands the pool of eligible individuals by including those who have completed at least 17 years of service in the Armed Forces. Furthermore, it extends transfer eligibility to individuals who are retired from the Armed Forces under chapter 61 of title 10 , which typically pertains to disability retirement. These changes modify existing provisions in title 38, United States Code, to allow more service members and veterans to share their earned educational benefits.
