This bill proposes to expand Medicare coverage to include early detection screening tests for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. It specifically amends Title XVIII of the Social Security Act to add these tests as a covered service, aiming to enable earlier diagnosis of these conditions. The legislation defines an "Alzheimer's disease and related dementias early detection screening test" as one furnished for pre-symptomatic and early stage detection, effective January 1, 2028. These tests must be FDA-cleared, classified, or approved and include genomic sequencing blood or blood product tests . The Secretary may also determine other equivalent tests, such as those based on tissue or urine, to be covered if they provide comparable results.
