This resolution celebrates the 90th anniversary of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), an organization founded in 1935 by educator and civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune. NCNW was established to unify Black women and tirelessly advance opportunities for African American women, families, and communities. Under the transformative leadership of Dr. Dorothy Irene Height for 42 years, NCNW significantly strengthened its national infrastructure, expanded its advocacy, and launched signature initiatives like the Black Family Reunion , which celebrates Black culture and intergenerational strength. For nine decades, NCNW has served as a leading national voice for racial justice, gender equality, and economic opportunity , representing over 2 million women through its extensive network. The organization continues to implement vital programs focused on economic empowerment, community health and wellness, STEM education, and leadership development for girls, reducing disparities and expanding opportunities nationwide. The resolution commends the ongoing leadership of Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley and encourages all Americans to join in celebrating NCNW's enduring legacy of service, advocacy, and transformative impact.
