This legislation establishes a Youth Mental Health Research Initiative within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The initiative will be led by the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, in collaboration with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, to coordinate and encourage collaborative research efforts. The research will focus on both fundamental and applied aspects of youth mental health, specifically including social, behavioral, cognitive, and developmental research to build resilience and enhance community capacity for identifying and caring for at-risk youth. It also seeks to improve the targeting and delivery of mental health interventions in various settings where young people live, play, work, and learn. To support these critical research endeavors, the bill authorizes an appropriation of $100,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2030.
