The SNAP Next Step Act of 2025 amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to enhance employment and training opportunities for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients by establishing eligibility for "covered individuals" to participate in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) employment and training activities. These covered individuals are defined as SNAP recipients who are unemployed or underemployed, not receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and not already enrolled in a State Employment First program. State agencies are authorized to utilize administrative funds to recruit these eligible participants and implement WIOA-defined employment and training programs. Additionally, the bill permits State agencies to develop a publicly available employment calculator on their websites. This tool would assist SNAP participants in understanding how potential employment income might compare to their current SNAP benefits, with its development and maintenance costs classified as administrative expenses.
