The "Rural Health Focus Act" directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish an Office of Rural Health within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to be headed by a director. This office will serve as the primary CDC contact for rural health, focusing on conducting and promoting research regarding public health issues affecting rural populations, and disseminating results. Its duties include developing and coordinating policies, best practices, and innovative programs, including through telehealth , to improve care and services for rural communities. The office will also support rural health research, conduct educational outreach, and disseminate evidence-based interventions to prevent disease and promote healthy behaviors, while identifying healthcare disparities and improving understanding of rural health challenges. Additionally, it is authorized to award grants and contracts for technical assistance and will coordinate with the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to avoid duplication of efforts.
